Why I am walking on May 31
I was born at UHN's Toronto Western Hospital. They don't deliver babies there any more. But I still think it's pretty cool that for the last 10 years I've worked at UHN Foundation supporting the organization where I first entered the world.
But that's not why I am walking.
UHN - home to the Ajmera Transplant Centre, North America's largest and most successful transplant centre - is is where my stepdad had a kidney transplant that prolonged his life, giving him more time with my mom.
But there is more.
UHN's Peter Munk Cardiac Centre is not only the top cardiac centre in Canada, but it trains the most cardiac specialists in the country. So whether directly or indirectly, I like to think that the work done there has saved the lives of many, including my best friend and her two brothers.
And yet there is still more.
A leader in brain health, UHN recently announced a partnership with camh to develop and deliver a comprehensive model of care to address both physical and mental health for patients, as well as accelerate advancements in brain health sciences. As current patient of UHN's mental health program, and a past patient of camh, this brings me so much hope for the future. My future.
UHN is the future of health care.
Every day at UHN, the world-renowned staff care for patients, conduct leading-edge research and train the next generation of health professionals. At the same time, they look for ways to do even better what they already do well.
And so I walk. For what UHN has given me, but also for how it will continue to shape the future of health care, and continue to impact the lives of those I love, near and far.
