Heart disease, cancer, and stroke are among the leading causes of death across the world. Occurences may be largely preventable, sometimes reversible, and often delay-able to an advanced age, but healthy persons are not risk-free. Treatment is paramount.
Every day at University Health Network (UHN) - Toronto General and Toronto Western hospitals, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Toronto Rehab and the Michener Insitute of Education - world renowned staff care for patients, conduct leading-edge research, and train the next generation of health professionals. Its motto: "Never been done is what we do."
UHN is the #1 hospital in Canada. In Newsweek’s 2024 World’s Best Hospitals list UHN is the only publicly funded hospital in the top 5, making it the world’s #1 publicly funded hospital. Last month it launched globally the Canada Leads 100 Challenge to recruit 100 world-leading early-career scientists. This alone requires a lot of money.
Just about everyone has family members or close friends die before their time. Or suffer more than they deserved. The 2 younger of my 3 sisters succumbed to cancer. In recent years I visited with friends who died shortly after. Three among family and friends are currently battling cancer, and a dozen others are benefitting from heart care.

Thanks for doing this, Charles! My brother-in-law received a double lung transplant at UHN/Toronto General Hospital almost 2 1/2 years ago. Literally a life-saver from pulmonary fibrosis.
