At Halpern Wine Enterprises, we have worked alongside the UHN team for decades. I've had the privilege of being part of that relationship personally for over six years, through the Grand Cru Culinary Wine Festival. In that time, I've witnessed first-hand the dedication, care, and ambition that goes into making UHN the second-ranked hospital group in the world. It is genuinely humbling.

Why This Year's We Walk UHNITED Feels Different for Me

I have been connected to University Health Network for over six years through my work at Halpern Wine Enterprises, most closely through the Grand Cru Culinary Wine Festival. In that time, I have seen what UHN does from the outside: the scale of their research, the calibre of their people, the ambition of their vision. I have always believed in the work. This year, I got to see it from the inside.

Earlier this year, a heart concern sent me down a path of further investigation. As a mother of two young kids, the what-ifs hit hard and fast. I won't pretend I wasn't scared. But from the moment I engaged with UHN's care, something shifted. The online tools alone were remarkable: the ability to receive information quickly, check in digitally, and track appointments made an already stressful experience feel manageable. And then there were the people: the kind and attentive staff at check-in, the thoughtful nurses, the specialists who took the time to be thorough and reassuring. Thankfully, I walked away with a clean bill of health, but I will forever be grateful for the care I received along the way.

That experience reminded me of something I think we all know but don't always feel until it's personal. Exceptional health care doesn't just treat illness, it holds people together when they are at their most vulnerable. Whether it's for me, for my children, or for anyone I love, UHN will almost certainly be part of their story at some point. And it's a real privilege to know that such high-level care is available to all of us.
